SchoolsWorking with primary, secondary schools and academies is the main focus of my work, mainly in delivering various aspects of the Working With Others programme. For primary schools, WWO offers a practical approach to building positive relationships among the whole class group. It focuses on developing trust and communication skills in the classroom and also supports planning for effective group work in the curriculum. Fundamental to the process is a pre- and de-briefiing structure, which enables children to develop their own strategies for learning and also understand how to respect and value each other. By improving communication skills we enhance self-esteem and pupil confidence, so that children can take responsibility for themselves and each other and improve their learning and relationships with peers. Secondary Schools are increasing their interest in Working With Others, particularly as they see the impact that it has had on pupils in their feeder primary schools. Also very supportive throughout transition, WWO can be used in form time, PSHCE and across a range of curriculum areas: enhancing PLTs (personal, learning thinking skills) by encouraging positive student relationships and promoting pro-social skills and behaviour in a climate of tolerance and respect. I have recently been supporting staff and educational development activities in primary schools in Ealing; secondary schools in Liverpool, academies in Shirebrook and special schools across the south.
